D&B provided engineering services for the design and construction of a new 1,380 gpm well at the Morley Park Treatment Facility for the Port Washington Water District. The existing packed tower aeration system included two existing wells, but with a treatment capacity for a total of four wells. Since the site is located on Nassau County Park land, D&B assisted the District in obtaining a license agreement with the County to construct a new well there.
Because the new well is located in a remote area of the site with respect to the existing treatment facility, it was necessary to provide a separate electrical service and to install piping and control conduits from the well site to the treatment facility. Connections to the existing treatment facility were difficult due to the site constraints.
Modifications were made to the existing treatment facility to incorporate the new well. Modifications included upgrades to the existing SCADA system and local control panels. Valves with motorized actuators were required to provide operational flexibility between the three wells and two treatment trains.
D&B prepared the preliminary design report, contract drawings and contract specifications for this project. D&B provided assistance during the bidding phase. Construction phase services included site inspection as well as project administration. D&B assisted the District in obtaining approvals from the Nassau County Department of Health (NCDH). Assistance was provided to the District for obtaining a low interest loan from the State Revolving Fund.
