Island Harvest is an organization whose mission is to eradicate hunger on Long Island. Founded in 1992, by Linda Breistone, who was infuriated when she noticed food being thrown away at the end on the day by a convenience store when there was a safe house for women on the same street. Island Harvest has become Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization. The organization now has a network of 570 food pantries, soup kitchens and other non-profit food organizations that offer feeding services for those in need. Hunger on Long Island is a sharply rising problem and Island Harvest’s goal is to provide an ample supply of food to those in need.
Recently, Island Harvest held its seventh annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Vice President Ken Pritchard, representing D&B, presented turkey coupons donated by D&B employees to the well organized effort. Ken is pictured with Island Harvest President Randi Shubin Dresner, far left, and Bethpage Federal Credit Union Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Linda Armyn. Thanks to Ken for getting D&B involved with supporting Island Harvest’s Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and fighting hunger on Long Island and also a special thank you to the employees who donated their turkey coupons to help feed those who are less fortunate.
