Each year, the Long Island Business News (LIBN) publishes a “Who’s Who” list of the top Long Island environmental engineers, consultants and company executives who make significant contributions to the betterment of the environment and quality of life on Long Island. This year, the LIBN selected Rich Walka, D&B Senior Vice President and Director of the Environmental Remediation and Multimedia Compliance Division, for his outstanding 35+ year career in the environmental industry. Rich’s career spans over 12 years of service as a charter member of the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) – Region 2 and 23 years with D&B Engineers and Architects, P.C. (D&B). Over this period, Rich has been responsible for countless projects that have resulted in environmental improvement which have created a positive impact on our local communities, as well as communities throughout the State.
Rich and his staff have been involved with a wide variety of environmental compliance and remediation projects. They have advanced significant environmental improvements in major industrial/manufacturing operations, hospitals and healthcare facilities, colleges and universities, commuter railroads, and petroleum retailers. Also, they have supported clean up of hazardous waste sites throughout New York State and assisted municipalities and private clients address liabilities associated with historic groundwater and soil contamination. Under Rich’s direction, the Environmental Remediation and Multimedia Compliance Division has supported dozens of clients on hundreds of projects with budgets ranging from several thousand dollars to tens of millions.
