Ion Exchange for Nitrate Removal in Two LI Water Supply Systems

Posted on June 29, 2011

D&B has been working on the design of two new Nitrate Removal Facilities on Long Island. Both systems will be based on the Layne Christensen Company Advanced Amberpack Ion Exchange System. This system uses a series of packed bed pressure vessels which can be regenerated on site using a brine solution. Pilot testing was performed at both sites to verify the effectiveness of the technology for the water quality from each well.

The construction of the 4.0 MGD treatment system for the Town of Hempstead Department of Water’s Roosevelt Field Wells 11 and 12 will commence in the Summer of 2011. The detailed design of a 1.7 MGD system for the Port Washington Water District is currently underway with construction anticipated for early Spring 2012.
