On November 21, 2016, the Philadelphia Zoning Board at L&I approved D&B’s design for a rooftop garden addition to the Historic Pitcairn Building at 1027 ARCH Street, Philadelphia, PA. The Pitcairn Building, a masonry cladded steel framed structure,designed by Architect’s G.W. & W.D. Hewitt (1901), is located among other prominent Philadelphia landmarks such as the PSFS Tower, the historic Reading Terminal Market, and the Philadelphia Convention Center.
Rooftop Garden project scope & features:
• New Class A Roof (10,000 SF)
• Rooftop Garden (2,250 SF) – complete with built in benches, artificial lighting, concrete pavers featuring ambient glow technology, and live roof modular tray system.
• The project is designed to provide storm water management and other benefits to the owner that will meet Philadelphia Water Department’s (PWD) Green Roof Tax incentive program.
D&B’s architectural division will lead the effort to develop construction drawings and bidding documents for the client, 1027 Arch Street Condominium Association. The project construction is estimated around $1.2mil with a start date around Summer 2017. D&B is leading the new trend for rooftop gardens in Philadelphia.
