NYCDDC Staten Island Trench Restoration Environmental Investigation Program

Posted on September 11, 2017

The New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) has awarded D&B and our Project Team with a contract to complete subsurface investigations associated with a Utility Trench Restoration Program to be completed within 3 targeted areas on Staten Island. NYCDDC is undertaking this program in an effort to repair the structural failure of ancient wooden bracing systems existing within the utility infrastructure underneath the surface of its roadway system. In a number of cases the ancient wooden bracing has rotted, causing the utility trenches to sink, thus affecting the road surface and creating depressions, major cracking, and in some cases sinkholes. D&B’s subsurface investigation will consist of the investigation of several targeted geotechnical soil borings and test pits within the affected areas prior to NYCDDC’s rehabilitation, restoration and street repair work.
