Brookhaven Materials Recovery Facility – Building Expansion and Process System Improvements

Energy Recovery Facilities

D&B has long been a premier independent consulting engineering firm involved in energy recovery facilities, including refuse derived fuel and mass burn systems. We have served as engineering consultants on over 40 projects ranging from 12 to 3,000 tons per day, with more than half involving rehabilitation/upgrading of existing facilities. We have hands-on experience with all of today’s commercially available refuse processing/fuel preparation systems, stokers, furnaces and boilers.

Our capabilities, including in-depth feasibility studies addressing key elements of successful projects, have enabled us to make projects succeed where others have been unsuccessful. The results of energy recovery facilities related efforts have provided assistance to public agencies, permitting agencies, bidders and contractors, attorneys, investment bankers, electric utilities and the general public.

Our experience includes preparing environmental impact statements, stack emissions dispersion analyses, health risk assessments, and permit applications necessary to obtain authorization to construct and operate the facilities. D&B has been in the forefront of combustion system and air pollution control advancements to ensure that facilities do not pose unacceptable health or environmental risks.

D&B has conducted operation and maintenance reviews on a continuous basis as part of contractor performance monitoring, and on special assignments in response to changes in regulations or in response to contractor proposals for facility modifications. In addition, we have conducted troubleshooting analyses and proposed design/contractual solutions at various facilities.
