D&B Engineers and Architects recently joined Village of Baxter Estates Mayor Nora Haagenson, New York Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Chief of Staff Adriana Espinoza, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, former Assemblymember Gina Sillitti, and fellow project partners for the groundbreaking of the Baxter Beach Shoreline Stabilization and Remediation Project.
As Civil Engineer of Record, D&B is honored to play a role in this important investment in the future of Baxter Estates and the Port Washington peninsula.
Baxter Estates’ shoreline has long been vulnerable to erosion, flooding, and the impacts of increasingly severe weather. Located along Shore Road, a critical connection traveled by more than 8,000 vehicles each day, the project addresses both the immediate needs of the shoreline and the long-term resilience of surrounding infrastructure.
D&B’s civil engineering team designed a comprehensive shoreline stabilization solution focused on protecting public infrastructure while restoring natural shoreline functions and improving environmental conditions. The project also includes beach sand replenishment, a timber pedestrian pathway, and a living shoreline incorporating native plantings. Together, these improvements will help stabilize sediment, reduce erosion, enhance waterfront access, and create a more resilient coastal environment.
Bill Merklin, P.E., President and CEO of D&B Engineers and Architects commented, “Projects like the Baxter Beach Shoreline Stabilization and Remediation Project demonstrate the important role that thoughtful engineering plays in protecting our communities and strengthening our coastal infrastructure. We are proud to partner with the Village of Baxter Estates and our fellow project stakeholders to deliver a resilient, environmentally responsible solution that will help protect Shore Road, restore the shoreline, and enhance the waterfront for years to come. This is an investment not only in infrastructure, but in the long-term sustainability and quality of life of the Port Washington peninsula.”
The project represents a strong example of what can be accomplished when local, county, and state partners work together toward a shared goal of coastal resiliency.
D&B is proud to support the Village of Baxter Estates on this transformative project and to help build a safer, more sustainable shoreline for the Port Washington community and generations to come.
