The motto “Dedicated to a pure and plentiful water supply”, tells the story of the Long Island Water Conference. The group was founded in 1951 when Long Island began to feel the full impact of post World War II population explosion. Its avowed purpose is to provide and maintain an adequate and safe water supply. And, equally important to anticipate the water concerns of future generations by providing imaginative and sound programs.
At a recent meeting of the Long Island Water Conference, Chris Melillo of D&B won the meter madness competition for engineers with a remarkable time of 49 seconds. The contestants in the competition take apart a water meter and place the parts in a bucket along with other parts not associated with a typical water meter. They are timed to completely put the meter back together again. D&B competed against two other firms and the water operators competed in a separate contest. Chris’ time was better than all contestants including the water operators. Congratulations, Chris!
