At a virtual ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the New York State American Water Works Association (NYSAWWA) presented D&B’s own P.J. Connell, P.E., with the prestigious Young Professional of the Year award.
The award recognizes “the finest young water professionals who demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their profession, provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to the NYSAWWA and the water community, and who serve as role models for young water professionals.”
P.J., a graduate of the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF), joined D&B’s Water Supply Division as an engineer in 2015 and remarked “It is particularly inspiring to be recognized by fellow professionals in the field you love and have chosen as a career. To receive this award considering the depth of the candidates, and in view of what the NYSAWWA organization stands for, is humbling.”
A National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Level 2 Certified Coating Inspector, P.J. often actively gives back with guest lectures on potable water systems at his alma mater, Oceanside Senior High School.
D&B Engineers and Architects President Steven A. Fangmann commented “P.J. Connell plays an active role in managing our Water Supply Division’s tank construction, inspection, and rehabilitation efforts. Further, his professional versatility is demonstrated by working with other D&B’s disciplines including Hazardous Waste and Electrical Engineering to coordinate a multidisciplinary approach in solving the challenges posed by emerging contaminants on Long Island.”
